Hayward stars in World League Semi Finals

NTIS supported Hockey athlete Jeremy Hayward has had an outstanding World League Semi-finals tournament.

Jeremy Hayward has been in Johannesburg, South Africa, playing for Australia (Kookaburras) in the Hockey World League. In the qualifying rounds he scored the winning goal against New Zealand in a 2-1 result, another goal against Japan in a 7-2 win and again against Egypt in a 4-0 victory. In the semi-final game, Belgium got up over the Kookaburras 2-1, with Jeremy again scoring for the Aussies.

The Kookaburras then hammered Spain 8-1 in the play-off for third place, with Jeremy getting a double to bring his goal tally to 6, becoming the second highest goal scorer for the tournament. Belgium went on to beat Germany 6-1 in the final. The result for the Kookaburras means that they have qualified for the World League Finals in December and the 2018 World Cup.
