Regional Museums Grant Support Program now open

Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss, has today announced that applications are open for the Northern Territory Regional Museums Grant Support Program.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss, has today announced that applications are open for the Northern Territory Regional Museums Grant Support Program. 

"We know that museums create jobs and help build vibrant communities so we are investing in them”, she said.

“A total of $285 000 in funding is available to assist regional museums, keeping places and community art galleries to develop programs, displays, manage their collections, acquire relevant skills for the benefit and enjoyment of residents and visitors to the Northern Territory”, Ms Moss said. 

“The Regional Museums Grant Support Program has been available annually since 1997 and we recognise the importance of these centres in preserving and telling the stories of the Northern Territory’s culture for visitors to the Territory and future generations”. 

The 2016 grant recipients included:

  • Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation Djomi Museum for the Djomi Museum Collection - $30 000
  • Central Australian Aviation Museum for the employment of a collection manager and construction of visitor access stairs to the new Heron Display - $6 67
  • Charles Darwin University for the CDU Nursing Museum - $12 293
  • Darwin Military Museum for the School Kids DMM Workbook - $12 014
  • Heritage Alice Springs towards program of activities to activate The Residency as a Historic House Museum - $87 519
  • Historical Society of Katherine NT to improve storage of existing museum collections - $35 030
  • Mimi Ngurrdalingi Aboriginal Corporation for the Mimi Development project - $14 976
  • National Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame for the HerStory Archive digital collection - $50 049
  • National Trust of Australia (NT) to digitise archival material located in Alice Springs - $7 500
  • National Trust of Australia (NT) towards accessioning and cataloguing of museum collections - $13 943
