Free Family Fun Day at Leanyer Recreation Park
This year’s Free Family Fun Day at Leanyer Recreation Park is expected to make a huge splash.
On Saturday 19 November the YMCA will again be hosting the free event for individuals and families, who are looking to get wet, socialise and connect in a fun environment.
YMCA Chief Executive Officer Top End Ron Mell said the fun day was about creating a socially engaging day for individuals and families.
“The YMCA’s mission is to bring individuals and families together to socialise and connect in a fun environment that helps people become healthier and happier.”
Studies show daily physical activity is vital for all Australian children and young people.
Children and young people who accumulate the minimum amount of physical activity every day are at a lower risk of conditions including being overweight or having obesity. Despite these obvious health benefits, national studies show only 19% of Australian children and young people, aged 5-17 years meet the physical activity recommendations.
Mr Mell said “The family fun day is just one initiative that we have developed to deliver on this mission.”
“We are fortunate enough to work alongside the Northern Territory Government who offers this Waterpark as a free service to everyone.”
Scheduled across the day will be some exciting activities and community education engagement programs.
Royal Life NT will host water safety and lifeguard activities to educate local children on how to be safer in, on and around water.
The program of events also includes a rookie life guard, jumping castle, face painting, live music, giant games and available for purchase will be a BBQ sausage sizzle.
The event will be held at Leanyer Recreation Park from 10.00am - 2.00pm 19 November, 2016.
