About NT Archives Service

The new Library and Archives NT

The Northern Territory Library and NT Archives Service have joined forces to become a new branch within the Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture: Library & Archives NT. Considered and staged changes will take place as we transition to this exciting new organisation and we thank you for your patience during this time of change.

About NT Archives Service

The Northern Territory Archives Service (NTAS) preserves and manages government and community archives. The NTAS gives you access to these collections at the Northern Territory Archives Centres in Darwin and Alice Springs.

The NTAS sets out and follows records management policy, standards and advice for the appraisal, disposal and management of permanent records.

The NTAS has all of the following services:

  • archives collection
  • oral history
  • archives access
  • reading room
  • Northern Territory history grants
  • government recordkeeping.

Contact the NTAS for more information.

Archives Navigator and List of Holdings

NTAS holds Northern Territory Government and community archival records.

Archives Navigator will help you search through these archives. Go to Archives Navigator.

As archives are continually being added to the system, check the list of holdings PDF (901.6 KB) for a complete list of series held by the NTAS, including inherited Commonwealth series.

To search for oral history interviews go to the online index.

Make sure you complement your research by using other tools such as the information leaflets and subject guides.
